ProSphere to Develop COMS Pilot Software for Three VA Facilities
ProSphere was awarded a new task order under the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Transformation Twenty-One Total Technology Next Generation (T4NG) for the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) Innovation Program. This program is a cooperative effort between VA Center for Innovation (VACI) and VA Office of Information and Technology (OI&T) to catalyze and support VA’s next generation health Information. The Chemotherapy Ordering Management System (COMS) application will support oncology healthcare teams in ordering, preparing, and documenting the administration of chemotherapy.
“ProSphere is excited to work with VA on developing this new software application,” said Kevin D. Rice, President. “Being able to participate in this collaborative development is key to providing not just IT services, but also delivering support that assist in making the Veteran’s healthcare experience better.”
As part of the Strategic Incubation Initiative, VHA sponsored Strategic Innovation Challenge Design Workshops focused on COMS, an automated tool that enables end-to-end tracking of chemotherapy regimen including pharmacy orders, order templates, provider notes, end of treatment summaries, and a database of relevant information. Clinicians can use the tool to access and query the chemotherapyrelated clinical data needed to meet a variety of reporting needs. The COMS application enhances the clinical environment and safety for oncology patients through development and implementation of an automated ordering and management process available within the VHA clinical practice setting. The application satisfies the unique needs of chemotherapy ordering and standardizes capabilities to meet direct entry of chemotherapy orders.
