Electronic Health Record Integration

True value lies beyond simply converting a paper-based process to electronic-based. ProSphere provides a platform for accessing data through Application Programming Interfaces (APIs), conducting analysis, and integrating the outcome of that analysis through Clinical Decision Support Systems that can improve individual outcomes, reduce treatment costs, and advance overall quality in delivering healthcare.

ProSphere is supporting Electronic Health Record Integration for the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) with the following programs:

Certification of VistA for Meaningful Use Design and Development

We support Meaningful Use Stage 2 modifications to ensure meaningful use compliance within the VistA program. For this, we modified VistA functionality associated with Preferred Language and Tobacco functionality. These functionality changes allow for the capture of preferred language related to patient visits and the implementation of tobacco use to be codified data into the standardized language sets of Systematized Nomenclature of Medicine (SNOMED) and International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems (ICD)-10.

These changes led to improved patient care delivery through the increased adoption of the EHR and an integrated system of checks and balances to manage the growing need of interoperability across the continuum of care.

FileMan Enterprise 23

ProSphere developed FileMan Enterprise (FM 23) to provide enterprise data management capabilities for VistA Evolution for Lab, Pharmacy and Immunizations; AP Order Dialog; VistA Evolution Auto Verification; and VistA Evolution Microbiology applications refactored to leverage its features. In support of this project, ProSphere provided:

  • Configuration and Change Management support that includes developing a Configuration Management Plan (CMP), establishing and implementing a configuration management process for all project artifacts, and establishing and executing a bi-weekly Change Control Board (CCB) with business and technical project stakeholders to approve and prioritize requested changes
  • Design and development activities according to the increment delivery schedule that complies with VA’s PMAS
  • The creation of a Software Release Plan, which provides agile software estimation and a recommended burn-down sprint development cycle and schedule spanning the base task and all optional tasks; and assures alignment with VA Enterprise Architecture, Technical Reference Model, Security, and 508 compliance coding standards
  • TDD Agile software development, including Sprint planning and execution
  • Testing, including developing a Master Test Plan; performing unit testing, component integration and systems testing, functional testing, regression testing; and performing software code quality checks
  • National release planning and execution support, including coordinating the responsibilities and conditions upon which Initial Operating Capability testing will be performed by VHA and Field Operations, developing national release technical documentation, and developing training guides
  • Bug fix support, including reviewing, analyzing, and testing defects identified by the VA development team and capturing the defect in the product backlog; and executing defect repair activities following the Agile Software Development process and consistent with the CMP

Making Allergy Information More Accessible at the Point of Care

The intent of this project was to create a fully functional and tested Enterprise Health Management Platform (EHMP) prototype within the VA Future Technologies Laboratory (FTL) that places and stratifies remote pharmaceutical and allergy information on the EHMP Cover Sheet (home page) to supplement the local allergy information that is already displayed. Both local and remote pharmaceutical allergies information are displayed in a more prominent fashion and are visible from any required tab within EHMP.
